My name is Jacqueline Christine Rock. I was born August 26th, 1973, raised in Bucks County, PA, and graduated from Neshaminy HS, class of '92. I began working in watercolor in 1987 and later with oils. I received my BFA from Kutztown University in 1996 and began private art instruction for 3 years for the city of Casselbery, Fl. I've worked minimally as a movie art director (Office Shuffle) and have experience in creating scenic art for the stage. In 2004 I started Rock Art, Inc. Most of my work has been in Faux finishes and murals--a far cry from my dream of being a concept artist for Disney.
The film Fantasia, along with artists like Erte and Alphonse Mucha, helped shape my artistic style. My love for fairytales and all things mythological keeps me inspired. In addition, costume design and women’s fashion through the ages keeps me dreaming. I tend to concentrate on the female form in my work.
Spanning time from ancient Egypt to the Gilded Age, my female subjects are dressed well. Glamour and sexual dominance of women depicted in my art comes with ease and natural flow. Soft color wins over saturation in my art. I devote much time to creating detail in my painting, transporting the imaginative eye of the viewer into the experience of story. I want viewers to be entertained, yet find their own emotional expressions brought to the fore. The stream of subconscious thought produces the mystery behind my images--causing me sometimes to wonder, “What was I thinking?” Gripping emotions extracted from day-to-day life or a great song can be a catapult to the portrayal of a new subject. I am a mother of one child, so my paintings continue to be babies I must protect also. I pour myself and imaginative experience into each work. Love and angelic purity challenged by the darkness of adversity to faith will continue to pop up in my subjects. Strength and fortitude within woman through a secured sense of sexuality and independence will continue to be a subject of future works.
